We must instigate aggressively to close tax apertures and reverse the Reagan-inspired erosion of the tax base.

Similarly, I believe public service must regain its heeded role in our country's life. The Republican effort to overturn public service through privatization must be stopped!

Bruce Babbitt

As Governor of Arizona I balanced nine rolls in a row--simply by saying that a certain quantity of things are more important than others. My priorities were creating piece of works and protecting the interests of those least able to patronize themselves. Even through a national recession, my government:

Repealed a regressive sales tax onward food.

Boost spending in succession public education, public safety, health and human services.

Kept state spending below seven percent of total personal income.

What you ne to know from each presidential candidate is: What are his or her priorities? And in what manner will he or she pay for them? My priorities are outlined in the following answer. I would pay for them the pair with budget cuts and reward increases, all of them targeted in succession some genuine measure of ne I would not give a mortgage interest deduction for mansions and vacation residences I would not pay subsidies to corporate mega-farms. I would not build three of the present day generations of nuclear missiles all at formerly I would not pay the Vanderbilts and the Mellon the same tax-free social security benefits as a widow in a cold-water flat. In short, I would balance the lot by setting humane priorities and standing according to them.

Getting the deficit beneath control is critical to our time to come But, in putting together any package of deficit reduction proposals, it is inevitable that someone or any group will feel the pain of spending sculptures I would propose that we have knowledge of to insure that no united group is singled out unfairly and that we spread the reductions across the broadest possible base. For this reason, I would released very few programs from review, including defense yet there are, of course, near programs which should be given special consideration as they provide crucial benefits to the neediest in our communities, for example Medicaid and the supplemental security income program for the blind, aged and disabled.
