Travelling here for the first time since a foiled coup against President Laurent Gbagbo divided the rural parts in two, Annan is accompanied by way of African heavyweights who have played critical mediation parts in recent months to acquire the peace deal moving.

Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo of Nigeria, Thabo Mbeki of southward Africa, Denis Sassou Nguesso of the Republic of Congo who is also the general chair of the African Union, and Mamadou Tandja of Niger, the head of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) will attend the talks.

Annan intends in succession Thursday to continue his consultations with Gbagbo which began onward Saturday on the sidelines of the African Union (AU) summit in Gambia.
